Our First Love
From the Pastor’s Desk
In approximately 58 AD the Apostle Paul exhorted the Church at Ephesus for their love and commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, 37-years later when the Apostle John recorded what was happening in that church, he recorded the words of Jesus as saying, “I have this against you, that you have left your first love”. What happened at Ephesus that led to the departure of their first love? Although that is a good question, the more important question is: “How does a believer, even a church body, return to its first love”? Jesus counsels us to, “remember from where you have fallen – repent and do your first works”. Remember when you accepted Him as your Savior and shared Him with all who would listen? Remember your excitement when you loved to study His word? – When you loved to pray and just talk to Him? Remember when He was foremost in everything that you did? Has complacency somehow has entered your walk? These are personal questions, but today’s message is hopefully a wakeup call to all who wish to return to the excitement of their first love for Jesus, your Savior.
