Celebrate Freedom

From the Pastor’s Desk

Friday was the 4th of July (Independence Day) and we celebrated the beginning of the 250th year of “One Nation under God”. Often,
messages on or about that day reflect emotions of gratitude for being able to live in “the Land of the Free”. Even though this nation does have its problems, it is still the most free nation in the world. We as Christians, have the best of two worlds as we hold joint citizenship with both this nation and Heaven. While our freedoms in this nation have come to us through the many sacrifices of those who have given their very lives, we are also reminded of a God who sent His Son to give us “ultimate freedom”. The Bible teaches that “who the Son sets free is free indeed” (John 8:36). Thus, celebrating this day can also serve as a reminder of that very sacrifice for those who believe (US). As citizens of both worlds, the Christian can thank the United States for our many freedoms, including even our freedom to worship Him who has also died for our freedom. Thus, today, as believers, we are to be both patriotic and spiritual – We thank God for this nation and we thank God for His
Son and our ultimate freedom.
