Hosanna - Palm Sunday

Pastor’s Desk

Today is Palm Sunday which commemorates the day that Jesus of Nazareth rode into Jerusalem to be hailed as the Jewish Messiah. The people came out to meet Him and laid palm branches on the ground before Him. This was an honor given only to a king. For Christian believers, this day represents the first day of a week which we call “Passion Week”. During this week we remember that Jesus: (1) Entered Jerusalem on Sunday – (2) Taught in the Temple on Monday and Tuesday (3) Ate His last supper (Passover meal) on Wednesday night (which began Jewish Thursday night) – (4) Was arrested, tried and convicted on the same Thursday – (5) Died on a Roman cross at twilight before the end of that same Thursday – (6) His body was put into a tomb before the end of that same Thursday – (7) There He would remain dead on Friday, Saturday and on Sunday – (8) Then this Jewish Carpenter would rise from the dead! We call that day Easter Sunday. All this will be remembered by us in real time this week as we flow through “Passion Week”. What a wonderful God we serve whose “Passion” is to Redeem His creation that we might live with Him eternally in His Kingdom – Praise God!
