Lord of My Rocking Boat
From the Pastor’s Desk
“Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” These are the words of Jesus to His disciples as they woke Him from His sleep in the little boat. They were all at sea there was a major storm, a “tempest”. They were all sure that they were about to perish. But, rather than perishing, they were about to learn a very important fact about the Man that they had chosen to follow. These men were disciples and the word disciple means to be a “follower”. Jesus had gotten in the boat and had said to his followers, “let us cross to the other side” and they, as followers, followed Jesus into the boat. But when the storm came and they felt the fear of perishing, the words “Let us go to the other side” were forgotten. Many people looked to these follower’s lack of faith for not realizing what Jesus had said. However, I believe that this story teaches even a higher level of understanding. “They woke Him! They came to the only source that could and would save them. This is not to say that our God is asleep on the throne but when the storms of life begin to take you down, you need to realize “Who is in your boat” and call upon Him. As this story teaches, only He can calm the storm.
