From The Garden to Bethlehem

From The Pastors desk

Galatians 4:4-5 tells us “When the fulness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, to redeem those who were under the Law. On the night that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the angel of the Lord declared, “For there is born to you this day in the City of David (Bethlehem) a Savior who is Christ the Lord”. This Child did not come un-announced. Scripture dating back to the fall of man tells us that God would send a man through the seed of a woman who would “crush the head of the serpent (the devil)”. This would solve the problem of sin, This morning, I would like to track some of the most obvious Old Testament scriptures that foretold of His coming. These scriptures begin in the garden and culminate on the eve of what we celebrate as Christmas. The promised Messiah (Christ) would come through a special nation
beginning with the calling of a man named Abraham, to Jacob who was renamed Israel and to his son Judah. Through the Tribe of Judah would come the Throne of David and this lineage would be placed by God into a virgin by the name of Mary. Today, we travel the road, from the Garden to Bethlehem.

Out of The Abundance Of The Heart The Mouth Speaks

From the Pastor’s Desk

There is a portion of scripture that has resonated within me for many years. This portion concerns the denial of Peter as Jesus was standing trial by the High Priest and Sanhedrin. Peter denied knowing Jesus three times that night. The third time Peter’s “speech” betrayed him and “he began to curse and swear saying, ‘I do not know the man!'” This man Peter had walked with Jesus for three years – He had accurately identified Jesus as the “Son of the Living God”. Yet, when he wanted others to know that he did not follow after the very Christ that he professed, he resorted back to his old ways and even his “old speech”. What was it that caused Peter to
deny the Christ? – It was fear. The Bible teaches that “from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. I find it quite common that when we fear people knowing that we are followers of Christ, even we tend to return to our old speech – Letting people know that we would rather “fit in” than to stand for Christ. Our speech, just like Peter’s speech, betrays us. Today, Pastor Don will dig deeper into the roots of those things that flow so easily from the heart to the mouth. Do not be surprised if you find yourself in this study –
The Seeds of the Mouth.
