Have you ever wondered why we are who we are? Most of us, if not all, can trace who we are back to the cradle. It is the hand that rocks the cradle who has been the influencer and the developer of our lives. Today we celebrate “Mother’s Day”, a day set aside to honor that #1 woman in all of our lives who influenced us to become who we are. To explain this wonderful phenomena I have chosen to speak from the Book of Ruth – The story of two mothers. In this story, Ruth is a picture of a Gentile bride who has turned to the God of Abraham, Isaaic and Jacob. She came into this faith by watching the life of her mother-in-law, Naomi, as she endured severe hardship through famine and even the loss of her husband and two sons. Naomi’s faith was an inspiration to her two daughter-in-laws whom she referred to as her own daughters. Because of Naomi’s inspiration Ruth accepted both her people and her God. Ruth would marry and become the great-grandmother of Israel’s most famous king, King David. Her name appears in the lineage of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Naomi gave to Ruth the greatest gift of all – The true and living God
